Ok..I'm no political fan nor am I especially interested in my GRC's happenings but somehow Dr Ong's death struck somthing inside me. His portrait was on the cover pages of a few chinese papers at the news stand and I inexplicably again caught a glimpse of the headline even though I wasn't really looking in the stand's direction (wierd as it may seem). However this man was a part of my childhood. When I was a juvenile, I would pour over the GRC newsletters with nonchalance, just hoping to catch a picture of myself at the CC children gathering sessions (which I occasionally did!) However my pictures were rare, whereas this bespectacled guy would ALWAYS appear on the front page with his very own speech published! Hence his kindly face was etched in my memory ever since I learnt to read. Its sad news for a nation when a great man passes on, and I believe Dr Ong fits the label. For his enthusiasm in hearing his people out and for leaving great memories of him shaking the hands, watching us do our paint riots at the art competitions, and his very positive image in the minds of us 90s' kids, I dedicate this entry in his memory.
